Ceiling Painting Services
Smooth Ceiling Painting
Smooth ceilings painted with matt finish read as clean and well-maintained. We paint ceilings in all rooms—bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, and bathrooms.
Each room presents different challenges. Bathrooms need moisture-resistant finishes.
Living rooms with high ceilings need proper access equipment. Kitchens need finishes that tolerate steam.
We select the right system for each room.
Artex Removal and Overskimming
Original Artex ceilings in 1950s and 1960s properties can be painted directly or overcoated with a skim finish. Painting Artex preserves the texture.
Overskimming removes it and creates a smooth surface. We advise on both options at the site visit.
Overskimming costs more but creates a modern smooth ceiling finish. Painting Artex is the more economical option.
Cornicing and Roses
Period cornicing and ceiling roses are often thickened by decades of overpaint. Hand-cutting precise lines at the edge of cornicing without splatter on the moulding itself is a specialist task.
We do not use rolling techniques close to mouldings. Every line at the ceiling-to-wall junction and around ceiling roses is hand-cut precisely using a brush.
Water Damage and Staining
Water damage from roof leaks or pipe damage can stain ceilings even after the water source is fixed. We prepare stained ceilings, apply a stain blocker primer, and finish with fresh paint.
We confirm that the water source is actually fixed before painting. New stains appearing during painting indicate an ongoing leak needing investigation before decoration.
High Ceilings
Ceilings over 3 metres high need proper access equipment. We use mobile access towers or scaffolding to reach high ceilings safely and comfortably.
Access equipment is included in the quote. Heene and Central Worthing properties often have ceilings this high.
We plan for the extra time and equipment such ceilings require.

Here’s How It Works
1. Assessment of ceiling condition.
We visit and inspect the ceiling. We note surface condition, check for water damage, and assess any moulding detail. We identify any repair work needed before painting.
2. Repair and preparation.
Water stains are treated with a stain blocker. Cracks are filled carefully. Loose areas are stabilised. For Artex, we discuss whether to paint or overskrim.
3. Access setup.
For standard-height ceilings, we paint from a secure ladder or staging. For high ceilings, we set up mobile access towers or scaffolding.
4. Paint application.
Ceiling paint is applied carefully to avoid drips. The ceiling is painted first, before walls or woodwork. This keeps paint off finished surfaces.
5. Edge finishing.
If there is cornicing or a ceiling rose, we hand-cut the edges precisely after the main ceiling coat is dry. This prevents splatter on the moulding.
Ceiling Painting Costs in Worthing
Cost Factors
Prices below are estimates only. Every ceiling is different. Call 01903 497335 for a precise quote.
A single ceiling repaint typically costs between £180 and £420, depending on room size and ceiling height.
Three things drive the price:
Room size. A large reception room ceiling takes longer than a bedroom ceiling. More area means more material and more time.
Ceiling height. Standard height ceilings are quicker. High ceilings (over 2.8 metres) require access equipment and take longer.
Moulding detail. Cornicing and ceiling roses require hand-cutting, which takes longer than a plain ceiling edge.
Trade insight. Heene Edwardian properties have high ceilings with extensive moulding. These ceilings take longer and cost more than simple modern ceilings.
Typical ranges:
Standard bedroom ceiling (low to standard height, no moulding): £180 to £280.
Living room or reception room (larger area, possible coving): £280 to £420.
High ceiling with ornate cornicing (Heene Edwardian terrace or similar, 2.8+ metres): £320 to £520 depending on complexity.
