- Cast iron and steel radiator repainting
- Column and panel radiator finishes
- Heat-resistant paint and colour matching
- Radiator preparation and priming
1950s and 1960s semis in Findon Valley on Findon Valley Road still commonly have cast iron or early steel column radiators. These require heat-resistant paint that prevents yellowing and can tolerate expansion and contraction without flaking. Radiator painting is part of our full interior painting service and is usually handled alongside room repaints.

Radiator Painting Services
Cast Iron Radiators
Cast iron radiators are durable and valuable period features. We repaint them with heat-resistant finishes that maintain their appearance through years of heating cycles.
Cast iron expands and contracts as it heats and cools. Standard paint will flake under this movement.
Heat-resistant paint flexes with the metal.
Steel Panel Radiators
Modern steel panel radiators benefit from fresh paint to brighten a room or match a new colour scheme. We use heat-resistant finishes that prevent yellowing and maintain durability.
Panel radiators are easier to paint than column radiators due to their simpler geometry.
Column Radiators
Column radiators have more surface area and more detail than panel radiators. Each column and section requires careful painting.
We paint these methodically, ensuring even coverage on all columns. Column radiators look impressive when freshly painted and colour-coordinated with the room.
Heat-Resistant Paint
Heat-resistant paint is essential for radiators. Standard emulsion will yellow and flake under heat.
Heat-resistant finishes stay bright and resist peeling even at high temperatures. We use specialist heat-resistant paints designed for radiators and other high-temperature surfaces.
Colour Matching
Radiators can be painted to match the wall colour for a seamless look, or painted in a contrasting colour to become a feature. We advise on colour choice during the site visit.
Coordinated radiator colour transforms the feel of a room.

Here’s How It Works
1. Site visit and preparation assessment.
We visit and assess the radiator condition, material type (cast iron or steel), and any existing paint damage. We discuss colour options.
2. Surface cleaning.
Radiators are cleaned thoroughly to remove dust and accumulated grime. Any loose paint is removed. The surface is wiped clean and dry.
3. Priming.
Bare metal is primed with a metal primer. Existing paint in good condition is sanded lightly before new paint is applied. Priming ensures good adhesion.
4. Paint application.
Heat-resistant paint is applied in two coats. Each coat is allowed to dry fully. Brush application allows us to reach into columns and detail areas.
5. Final inspection.
The finished radiator is inspected for even coverage and colour match. Any touch-ups are completed before we leave.
Radiator Painting Costs in Worthing
Cost Factors
Prices below are estimates only. Every radiator is different. Call 01903 497335 for a precise quote.
Radiator repainting typically costs between £60 and £100 per radiator unit, depending on size and type.
Three things drive the price:
Radiator type. Cast iron and column radiators have more surface area and more detail than panel radiators. More area means more time.
Surface condition. Radiators with loose paint need more preparation. Clean radiators are quicker.
Number of radiators. Multiple radiators benefit from economy of scale in pricing.
Typical ranges:
Single panel radiator (small to medium): £60 to £90.
Single column radiator (multiple columns, more surface area): £80 to £130.
Full house radiator repainting (3-4 radiators, coordinated colour): £220 to £400 depending on radiator type and condition.
For a full interior repaint that includes radiator painting as part of the complete room, see our interior painting page. Cast iron radiator repainting is often part of a period property project. See our period property painting page for more.
